About the festival
The Ullapool Guitar Festival + Trade Show began in 2000 to boost local tourism and business after the foot-and-mouth epidemic. Held in October to extend the tourist season, it grew from local pubs and the village hall to its current home in the MacPhail Centre, offering excellent acoustics, workshops, a trade show, and catering.
The Festival’s success is built on two key factors: a loyal group of music fans who return each year and support its growth, and a core group of renowned musicians like Hugh Burns, John Goldie, and Clive Carroll. Their ongoing involvement has helped attract top guitarists from around the world.
What makes UGF special? It’s the blend of old and new music, electric and acoustic guitars, and seasoned performers alongside emerging talent from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The stunning location on Loch Broom and informal atmosphere—where everyone mingles, with no VIP areas—creates a unique experience, often including jam sessions with guitar legends.
