The idea of Guitare Expo Lyon was born from a discussion between two enthusiasts about this incredible instrument that is the guitar. Its manufacture, its use and especially the emotions that this instrument provides is the object of all fantasies. Whether it is classical, folk, electric, one neck or two, 4, 6, 7, 8 or 12 strings, it doesn't matter, we must own them, we must test them, we must make this instrument vibrate and feel the pleasure of playing and sharing our emotions in music. This second edition of Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May (10:00 - 18:30) is the opportunity to welcome luthiers, musicians, collectors at the Espace 140 - Rillieux-La-Pape. Festival Guitare Issoudun - 2023

Where: 249 Rue des Guedons, 36100 Issoudun, France
When: November 2, 3, 4 2023
Website: http://www.issoudun-guitare.com/

About the show
The Issoudun Guitar Festival is an event which takes place every year (towards the end of October, or the beginning of November) in Issoudun (Indre). This 3-day event is aimed at all guitar enthusiasts and offers a wide variety of activities, such as a guitar/violin making show, concerts, master-classes, workshops etc. In the past, the event evolved much around the acoustic guitar and finger picking, but today it includes many other styles like Jazz, Bluegrass, Classic, Rock, Blues, Folk, etc. The festival was initiated by Marcel Dadi in 1989. It has been refined ever since, and is now organized by a local association ("Issoudun, Capital of the Guitar"). This festival is a great opportunity to participate in many activities, play the guitar together, listen to some great (live) music and connect with other guitar enthusiasts.

Practical info
There are 2 types of arrangements, with or without accommodation. Should you choose to buy a ticket including accommodation, you can stay in a high school boarding house during the festival period. The rooms have 4 beds, with showers, sinks and toilets. However, you must bring your own sleeping bag! The festival organization also provides transport from the station to the festival site (for those who come by train). Meals (hot, with the choice between several dishes) are served at the Champs-Elysées Congress Center (on the Festival site). If you do not wish to enjoy accommodation and meals, a list of hotels and restaurants is provided on the info page of the festivals’ website (in French only!)

It is advisable to freshen up your French a bit before you go, as the festival is not particularly internationally oriented. However, the language of music is universal so I am sure you will be able to manage there anyway. Enjoy!

About the Festival

In October 2023, the Festival de Guitare de Puteaux will hold its 5th edition in the conservatory Jean-Baptiste Lully. The festival itself is organized by the Music Academy of Puteaux and offers a very diverse program. The event does a great job at connecting like-minded people in the guitar community. Whether you’re a guitar player, enthusiast, luthier or an exhibitor, there’s something to enjoy for everybody. Besides great performances, meetings, masterclasses, interviews and demo’s, there will also be a luthier show with over 50 exhibitors in different areas of the guitar world, such as acoustics, electrics, amps, pedals and accessories. The guitar show including the demo concerts are organized by The Guitar Channel.

The previous editions of the festival have proved to be a very big success! The festival attracted more than 2,000 visitors over the course of three days. Also, the show is not just for looking, but certainly also for buying! In 2019 the exhibitors declared that 55% of them either sold or took orders during the show which is an excellent performance for a guitar show!

Testing studios
In the past, testing guitars (on site) with the use of an amplifier was a very common practice on almost every guitar show. This usually resulted in a deafening cacophony of sounds that was rather unpleasant for basically everyone present. Also, the added value was questionable because you could never hear yourself play, let alone hear yourself talk. In recent years, this practice was increasingly banned from music shows. Some shows now provide sound-proof testing booths, but usually they are too few, to far away, too small, too warm/stinky you name it.
Festival Guitare de Puteaux however, has a great solution for this! One of shows’ great assets is the presence of seven(!) individual studios where visitors have the opportunity to properly try all the gear that is exhibited on the show. These studios are located on the same floor as the exhibition halls, which makes it all very convenient.

Demo concerts
Another great thing worth mentioning is that there will be several demo concerts, making use of the guitars, amps and pedals exhibited at the show. In 2019, these demo’s were done by pro musicians (Hugo Martin and Saturax) and all the sessions were recorded in video.

More info on the exhibitor list and performances will follow.
