Collaboration with Soulshine Pickups!

A short while ago, Sander Overkamp (a fellow Achterhoeker) from Soulshine Pickups has been busy working for us to create awesome custom handmade pickups for one our our new guitars!
About Soulshine Pickups
Sander creates high quality (boutique)guitar pickups. With respect for authentic materials he combines them with current technologies resulting in premium quality pickups. He can build any pickup!
At his workshop Sander has several winding machines. The most beloved one is a beautiful winding machine from the ‘60s! For each pickup he selects the winding machine which best suits the product.
For his pickups he only uses the highest quality materials available. The vintage wire types “Plain Enamel” and “Formvar” are used to wind the coil, and “Nickel-Silver” is used as material for metal pickup covers. The lead wires are period-correct and Alnico 5 as well as Alnico 2 magnets are available.
To stop microphonic feedback and to protect the coil, he pots his pickups in a special mixture of wax. Sander believes that a good penetration of the wax can only be realized when the pickup is fully warmed. This takes time. So instead of using modern, time saving vacuum chambers, we sit back, have a drink and wait a couple of hours.
For Sander, quality is key. He measures several parameters of each pickup before it leaves the workshop. In this way he guarantees that all pickups that leave the workshop meet the high quality standards.
